What this lets you do

Delete your Traceten account and the personal data we hold about you as our customer. Deletion happens in two stages. When you request it, tracking stops and your account is scheduled for erasure 30 days later. Nothing is destroyed during those 30 days, and you can cancel at any point. After that, the erasure is permanent and cannot be undone.
This page is about your data as a Traceten customer. To delete data about a visitor to your website, see Data deletion. The two are separate: erasing your account does not run visitor erasure requests on your behalf, and erasing a visitor does not affect your account.

How to request it

Go to Settings → Account, scroll to the Danger zone, and click Delete account. You’ll be asked to type DELETE MY ACCOUNT to confirm. An admin on your account must make the request, and their access has to cover the whole account rather than a single site. Members cannot delete an account. You can also email privacy@traceten.com from the address on your account if you’d rather we ran it for you.

The 30-day window

Deleting an account is destructive across every system we run, and a stolen session or a mistaken click should not be able to end your business’s analytics in one request. So the request and the erasure are separated by 30 days. Immediately, when you confirm:
  • Collection stops for every site on the account. Pageviews, conversions, identity calls and crawler reports are all refused at the edge, and orders from any connected payment provider stop being attributed. A snippet still installed on your pages adds nothing new.
  • Your subscription is set to cancel at the end of the current billing period. You keep the service you have already paid for; you are not charged again.
  • A banner appears across your dashboard showing the date your data will be erased, with a Cancel deletion button.
Until the 30 days are up, nothing has been destroyed. Cancelling restores everything: tracking resumes, your subscription continues, and all of your data is exactly where it was. After 30 days, the erasure below runs and cannot be reversed.
The window is there to protect you, not to delay you. If you need the erasure to run sooner, email privacy@traceten.com from the address on your account and we will waive it.

What we keep, and why

A record that the erasure happened. When we erase an account or a site we write one row recording what was erased and when: the account and site identifiers, the identifier of the admin who requested it, the timestamp, and per-table counts. It holds no analytics data and no name or email. We are required to be able to demonstrate that we acted on an erasure request, and a record that is deleted along with everything else cannot do that (GDPR Art. 30 / Art. 5(2)). Your billing records: usage counts, the amounts we charged you, and the invoices we issued. Tax and accounting law requires us to retain issued invoices, and we cannot alter them after they are issued. Those invoices still show the name, email, and billing address that were on them at the time. GDPR Article 17(3)(b) covers this: the right to erasure does not override a legal obligation to keep records.

We retain them for the period required by tax law in our jurisdiction, then delete them. We do not use them for anything else. Everything we keep beyond those records is stripped of the fields that identify you.

Timeline

Collection stops the moment you confirm. The erasure itself runs 30 days after the request; once it starts, analytics data is removed from our systems immediately, though the underlying storage purge runs asynchronously and typically completes within minutes. Backups run on a rolling cycle and are not individually edited. Deleted data disappears from backups as that cycle rolls forward.

Before you delete

  • Export anything you need first. You cannot recover analytics data after erasure. Export from the dashboard during the 30-day window, while your data still exists.
  • Remove the snippet from your site. Requesting deletion stops us accepting events, and erasure deletes your sites, but neither removes the script tag from your pages. Take it out before or shortly after the erasure runs.
  • Cancel is not delete. Moving down to the free Starter plan stops billing and leaves your data intact. Deletion removes the data. If you only want to stop paying, change your plan instead.
